40-09 Reunion

Memories of RAF Sidmouth 1943-44 (MS Word)

Change of Dates

The 40-09 Reunion is already in the early stages of planning for the (Weekend of 17th/18th/19th April 2009)

A change of plan, or dates, that is, for next year. I contacted the Westcliff Hotel and they are unable to give assurances for the new build onto the Hotel, which we would have accommodated if finished in time. There could be a problem, they say, because of building contractors etc. We cannot afford to wait around until the end of the year hoping it will get sorted as we all need to know firm dates for our '09 calendar. In view of this, have booked our weekend for 17th/18th/19th April, 2 nights at the next years prices of £65 per person, per night, Dinner B&B. Single supplement of £30, hopefully any singles will double up. A deposit of £20 per person will need to be sent to me (Dave Stinson) by the end of Sept, then I will pay the whole deposit. This is the way the Hotel wish it to be paid and I am more than happy to comply. Did look around for other Hotels, but not much luck with a group bookings as Sidmouth is a most popular venue, especially for group booking, and in anycase the Westcliff comes out at the most sought after one, hence the problems getting a booking at all!
Cheers - Dave

P.S Only places for 30 of us, anyone wishing to attend really need to get on the list before it is too late!

MESSAGE FROM DAVE STINSON:

Have now paid in all the deposit cheques to the Bank Account. Will pay the Hotel next week, when all the cheques have cleared.

Have spoken to the Hotel and confirmed our bookings for rooms - no problems there.

The remaining monies, for that weekend, will be paid directly to theHotel by individuals when booking out.

Reminder: The Hotel was once WRAF accommodation for RAF Sidmouth so I have asked for rooms with no WRAFs resident because the 40th lads are not like that - ha ha.

Cheers, Dave

---------------------------------------------

After much research & talking to others, have decided to opt for Sidmouth on the weekend of Friday 17th April 2009.

Provisionally, have booked the Superior Westcliff Hotel, Sidmouth, on very strong recommendation. Although the Hotel is awaiting confirmation that the 20 extra rooms that are to be built will be finished to enable them to accommodate our party. On this, they will get back to me in 2 weeks. I did say we would be no more than 40 in total, from the 40th
Entry - hopefully we may just get more, which the Hotel may be able tosqueeze in, provided early booking!
I do have a back-up Hotel in mind, but the Westcliff General Manager (Ken) is most confident all will be well with the new build completion, which starts later this year.

Once we get confirmation, later this month, the total fixed cost (negotiated as a group booking in advance) will be £65 per head for Dinner & Bed and Breakfast per night. Single room occupancy will attract a supplement, although I do realise people are happy to share - like some of us did at Cosford with 20 to a billet!!

A deposit of £20 per person will be required, once we have the starting gun later this month.

In the meantime, our usual list can now be posted onto our Site in order to ensure we get our dates in before other arrangements are made by individuals for 2009.
Sidmouth has many local attractions, such as nearby Lyme Regis, and along the coast, Chesil Beach, where the Dam Busters developed the techniques for the bouncing bomb.

Cheers, for now
Dave
